Violence against women is prevalent across all cultures in different forms and shapes. These include violence carried out by ‘individuals’ as well as ‘states. Crimes against women do not get the desired attention since most of the cases of violence against women take place in the privacy of their homes and are usually rejected by law enforcement agencies as family matters. State is responsible for the enactment of women friendly laws and developing appropriate mechanisms for their implementation. The entire criminal justice system has to play its role in combating violence against women providing relief to women in distress. For stable communities and peaceful society violence against women needs to be prioritized and addressed with utmost urgency. There can be no peace, no progress anywhere in the world as long as women are left to suffer in silence. Public awareness and demand for women rights can change this world making it a better place for women and girls free from the fear of violence.
