Women in Police

Women in law enforcement agencies have on average been outnumbered by men. However, due to the growing importance of women in peacekeeping missions and for dealing with crimes against women, law enforcement agencies have sought to reduce discrimination and increase the numbers of women working in this sector. Women are not only underrepresented there are also very few in senior ranks and therefore fail to influence policies and practices. Despite increased induction of women in police worldwide less representation of women at leadership positions will continue unless strategic measures are devised to bridge the gender gap.
